Blarghour is a hill livestock farm of 1,110ha rising from 130ft to 1580ft situated on the south side of Loch Awe in Argyll comprising traditional blackfaced sheep and highland cattle.
The 'An Sidhean Fold' was established in 2002 with the purchase of in-calf heifers from the breed society's October sale in Oban and from the private purchase of older cows with quality pedigrees from well known herds such as the Shenavallie and Cnoc folds, and from the Island of Mull; Pennygowan, Callachy, Torloisk, Achnacraig and Glengorm.
The fold comprises 25 pure-bred highland cows in-calf to stock bull James Beusach of Shenavallie. The cows are outwintered on rough low hill ground with a daily supplement of concentrates.
The farm is contract managed by Angus MacGillivray. Angus, a keen stocksman with a long tradition of working with highlanders, currently serves on the council of the Highland Cattle Society with responsibility for breed development.
As a member of the Hi Health scheme, An Sidhean maintains 'Elite' health status.
Private sales are welcome with stock also sold through the Highland Cattle Society sales in Oban.
