title Highland Cattle World

Sunset Farm

Sunset Farm is ocated 30 minutes southwest of Ottawa, in the village of Prospect.
The farm has been in our family for almost 100 years. We own 120 acres, which consists of pasture, hayfields, a quarry and bush. We also take hay off of my father's property which is 200 acres adjacent to us. The farm buildings are all cedar log, and were built in the 1800's - the original stone house burned down and was replaced around 1900 by a red Victorian farmhouse.

We bought our first registered Highlands in 1992 - two bred cows. After that, we were "hooked" on Highlands. Our 'just a couple' has turned into a goal of twenty breeding cows and we are quickly approaching that number. Most of our cows are in the 1100-1400 lb range.

Our herd sire, Gusgurlach of Windrush #6015 (affectionately known as "Gus"), is a son of an imported Scottish bull, Iain Mor of Glenquoich #4567. Many of our cows are also daughters or granddaughters of imported cows or bulls, and we like the "resulting" offspring
