Brue is situated on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and is home to the Brue Fold of pedigree Highland Cattle. The fold was started in February 2001 with the purchase of two yearling heifers at the Highland Cattle Society’s Oban Sale.

These two pedigree heifers, Una of Borve and Caileag Bheag 17th of Callachally along with Seònaid 3rd of Crossnish, purchased at the February 2002 Oban sale as a two-year old heifer, were the fold’s foundation breeding stock.

Currently the fold consists of four breeding cows and their calves, two bulls, five young heifers and a bullock. One cow and calf were sold in May 2009 to Worcestershire. Breeding stock have been sold through pedigree sales at Caledonian Marts (Oban), Dingwall & Highland Marts and privately. The sale of pedigree stock and prime Highland beef has been steadily growing year on year.

The fold runs and shares the same bulls with the neighbouring Tom Buidhe fold established in 2003. Both folds are Farm Assured and are members of the Premium Cattle Health Scheme (SAC) and have whole herd accreditation, testing free of BVD, IBR, Lepto and Johne’s.
